Today started really early for me. I woke up at 3am thanks to my internal clock that wakes me up after 8 hours sleep. Waking up that early was in a way pure torture, I'm kind of impatient, mingled with excitement because we were finally going to arrive in Egypt later that day.
We said goodbye to Athens at 1:35pm, flying Egypt Air and arrived at Cairo Airport at 3:30pm.
It was raining in Cairo the day we arrived so it probably wasn't great weather to be introduced to Cairo traffic. I could honestly say I was shocked at the total choas that confronted me on the roads (I'm glad I wasn't driving).
A quick word on the traffic in Cairo, nay, Egypt in general....the most valuable commodity to have in a car when driving there is good breaks and a horn. The driver also must have the ability to squeeze their car into any space that is made available even if it creates 5 lanes of traffic as opposed to 3. (yes there are traffic lines on the roads, but you pretty much ignore them).
After about an hour of nail biting fear we arrived at the King Hotel (yes I did steal a menu, anyone for Sizer Salad??). At this point in time we didn't have any of the local currancy so the person who carried our bags up got Euros, so the first thing we had to do was to get some money. Reception told us to go to the Sheriton Hotel, which required us to cross about 5 lanes of traffic, it truly gets the adrenilin pumping (also just so you know...dont wear thongs (flip-flops for you non Aussies) in Cairo after it has been raining).
After that we had dinner in the hotel, checked out Nomads on level 9, then went to bed.
The picture is the view from our hotel room at the King Hotel.
