Day 5

Captains Blog startdate 160206

Day 2 of the tour aka Pyramid and Sphinx day...

Met our tour guide (not to be confused with tour leader) Rasha (?) who was very nice and friendly. On the way to the Pyramids and Sphinx she told us the history and some conjecture on how the pyramids were made, she also warned us of the camel people.

What can I say of the Pyramids..they're huge and positively magnificent. We went into the 2nd Pyramid (Khafre's Pyramid), if you suffer from claustrophobia then this is not for you. Pretty much all it is you go through a tunnel to end up in a chamber where a stone coffin lies. But at least I can say I've been inside a Pyramid. :)

You aren't allowed to climb the Pyramids but some of the tourist police were encouraging it, and I'm not going to say no to a person with a gun in their hands.

And yes there is dogs and rubbish here too.

I was kind of snap happy, so lots of photos.

Next was a short drive to the Sphinx. You cant get near the Sphinx its not interactive but thats OK. You walk through a temple which still has some of the alabaster floor intact, and walk parallel to the Sphinx then back out through the temple.

After some site seeing, we were again taken to a Papyrus seller and I did buy some more....hmmm and then to get a sandwitch (hey its how they spelt it :P)

We returned back to the hotel to veg out and pack for our overnight train to Luxor.
But before leaving on the train we met up with Hassan again who took us around the streets of Cairo looking for a Cafe. And yes Hassan did sing the Egyptian national Anthem on the street but we also paid in kind. Couldn't find a Cafe so we went back to the hotel for drinks on level 9.

At the train station we were stared at constantly, probably because we were making a ruckus (I dare say). Bunch of wierdo Aussies and token Egyptain :)

Finally the train arrived and we said our farewells to Hassan and settled in. Now I have a problem sleeping on transports of any kind (I think I'm over it now) so it took along time for me to get to sleep. Especially when its cold and the lights are on. I was to be woken by a Japanese women who dropped her bag on my chair. Ah well what can you do.

Since this is an overnight train I'll leave you here...
